I am Marija.  I love to talk.  I love to write.  I have strong opinions and I am happy to share them.  I am not sure how I found myself writing a blog on interior design and life as a modern mom but here I am….

Twenty years ago, I studied interior design at the University of Illinois ultimately graduating with a degree in Political Science and later earning a J.D. from Drake University (don’t ask).  After (finally) passing the bar, it became glaringly apparent during my short-lived career in law – the highlight of which was wearing tailored suits and terrific shoes to work every day – that I was better suited for something more stylish.  With the support of my (very awesome) husband, I enrolled at Harrington College of Design to finish the education in Interior Design I started way back when.

In 2004, I started my own design firm in Chicago’s up and coming West Loop neighborhood.  Since that time, I have had the pleasure of working with amazing, open-minded and inspiring clients (well, all but one), many of whom I now consider friends.  I have been fortunate to spend much of 2009 designing and building a new home for my family (with the unwavering support of my incredibly funny and absurdly handsome husband) in a charming suburb just outside of Chicago. I have terrific neighbors, trustworthy friends and a loving family which includes two stylish and dare I say it – cool kids – Olivija and Nigel.

I love to travel, don’t mind to cook, am inspired by most things French or from the 70s, and I absolutely adore gold jewelry, J-Crew, cream walls, polished chrome and dark nail polish.  I love to text but I don’t do animated emoticons. I seldom use yellow and have an aversion to fussy accessories and ornate window treatments.  I prefer grey over brown, rarely wear denim unless it’s tailored or white, and typically opt for black pants.  I love simple, beautiful things. And if they’re monogrammed, even better.  I consider myself stylish because I have the confidence to do and wear what I love.  I believe style, like confidence, isn’t something you buy. You have it or you don’t, and I think I have it.  Insert winky face here.
