“ONE” Art + Gift Show

December 3, 2009

Who says you have to travel all over the world to collect amazing things for around your home? Starting today, The Merchandise Mart in Chicago is hosting

This is your opportunity to shop some of the best in fine art and fine craft from throughout the country right here in Chicago.  Over 500 artists, artisans and designers will be in attendance showcasing their one of a kind unique gifts, art & crafts.

The Mart is going out of its way to keep this thing interesting – live music, fashion shows, gourmet cafe, bars and special events.  Tickets are $12 at the door.

Click here for additional details and here for complimentary passes (enter code ECPFriend to receive complimentary tickets for you and a friend).  A happy little thank you for reading Holding Court.

See.  I’ve got your back…

BTW, you can view the featured artists websites and portfolios here.    Not sure where to start?

Check out Dana Reed Designs – her jewelry is gorgeous.  I’m really into this Oval Twisted Gold Ring.  A statement ring you can wear every day.  And an awesome holiday gift idea for the hard to buy stylish person on your list…

Or if you’d like something for your home or office, stop by and see David Mayhew Photography.  His booth is a must see – especially for those of you with office walls adorned with little more than your college diploma.  He is one of my fave photogs living in the city and I think his work is as versatile as it is vibrant.  And I’m not just saying that because I want him to photograph some of my latest projects…

This image will take you to his website.  It also happens to be the limited edition print I bought after first seeing it at an exhibit in Lake View about 3 years ago:

Now this is sort of random but I think it’s worth mentioning.  There will be many different types of artists and artisans at the show including some specialty food vendors, mostly organic, who use local products and work with local farmers. Their gift baskets are ideal for the people on your list you don’t know quite well (a work associate, neighbor, kids’ soccer coach).  Whatever the personality or price range, I think you’ll find some good inspiration at ONE.  Sonoma Farms has gorgeous, practical gift baskets and products.  I just bought some hot pepper infused olive oil at a farmer’s market and it has me a little less anxious about the day I run out of the “Murgo – Condimento A Base Di Olio Extavergine di Oliva E Peperoncino” that I picked up in Sicily this summer. So if nothing else strikes your fancy at “One,” grab some good olive oil and then head over to my favorite food blog, Rachel Eats for inspiring recipes, gorgeous images and beautiful writing…
